Apprentice Mandy Radecker is 19 and lives at Bracken Ridge. Mandy has ridden 71 winners and 4 of those have been in town. Her competitive spirit and her will to win are two of her strengths, and although she finds it tough in a male dominated game, she feels once she is in the saddle it’s a level playing field.
Mandy loves shopping and dining out, a big juicy medium-rare steak (she claims the Full Moon pub at Sandgate to be the best around) is her favourite and usually washed down with a few Lemon Lime & Bitters (one of Les’s mates!).
The best horse she has ridden is Patezza (track-work) and she can’t split Feeling Dandy and Hard To Catch as the best she has raced. (I think she should have added My Son Day in the list, she won on him for us recently!) The biggest influence in her career so far has been her boss Pat Duff, and she loves the riding style of Damian Browne. Mandy loves riding and its the early starts that she finds the worst part of the job. So next time you are thinking who to put on, don’t forget Mandy’s name.
