17th August 2006 :
Demolir is a 2001 gelding by Demus and out of the mare Jeanie and came to our stables at the beginning of 2005 after having four unproductive starts in Victoria. The owners were looking at obtaining a new horse and were advised by respected horseman Paul Hamblin that Demolir would be a good option. $8000 later, and a float trip up to Brisbane and the horse was here.
Les knew he had potential early, and after winning his first trial he was put straight into a maiden at Doomben, which he won comfortably. His owners had been together with previous horses including Fashion Jewels who won 6 races and over a $100,000. One of the connections is the brother to the captain of the 1982 Kangaroo’s, the first Australian Rugby League team to go through a tour of Great Britain undefeated. Max Krilich can often been seen cheering the horse home at Manly Leagues Club.
The boys in the group all played junior football with Manly, and the story they tell is “until you play footy at the Cricket Ground (the old SCG) you haven’t made it”. As far as their horse goes, they hope he is good enough to “play at the cricket ground”, and by that they mean win a race in town on a Saturday. Demolir has had 16 starts, for 4 wins, 1 second and 4 thirds, putting together nearly $50,000. He is very consistent, rarely running a bad race.
He has had a variety of jockeys ride him from Tony Pattillo on his first win, Ron Goltz his second win and Danny Peisley who has won on him twice recently. When Demolir goes for a spell he is another of our lucky horses that gets to go home to “mum & dad”. At home with owners Larry and Jenny he is treated like the king of Toowoomba, and with 4 year -old grand-daughter Emily attending to his every need, it’s a wonder they can get him on the float to bring him back to work.
Back in December 2005 Demolir did have a bleed, and Les has done a great job with him since then balancing his workload and being patient with him to ensure he can continue his racing.
