To Follow A Dream

Most Australians have a saying of John Laws on  radio,

“To keep the Dream alive,” my son,

It’s the only way to go.

To strive to be the very best,

Set goals and then to fight

To be the better of the best

Try hard with all your might.

Most of us, we have a go

To fight the bitter fight

But our stars they only glimmer

Instead of burning bright.

But, now and then there comes along

One better than the rest

Who sets goals and then achieves them

Always setting himself a test.

Work and bloody lots of it,

The trials of blood and sweat,

He gets up when he’s knocked down again,

On his feet he never rests.

He shows a real commitment

But still to those around,

He laughs and smiles and shakes their hands

A truer bloke cannot be found.

So, pat him on the back my friend,

And acknowledge the work of this man,

We owners, we’re a part of it-

Part of his master plan.

He’ll train some bloody awful ones,

I hope it’s yours not mine,

But in the end, he’ll give his best,

And things will turn out fine.

He’s getting there – his goals I mean,

And we’re coming for the ride,

Downs and South-West trainer of the year

Of Miles and District he’s our pride.

For when all is said and done,

At the end of every day,

We all take pride in his achievements,

Our respect to him we pay.

For there are those among us

Who are sent to show us how

Les Ross you are a champion, sir,

Step up and take a bow.
