14th September 2006 :
No doubt you have all heard about our horse Twostonelighter. He has been getting plenty of media attention of late, particularly down south with his nomination for this years Derby and Melbourne Cup.Twostone is a 3 year-old by Redoute’s Choice, who is the sire of so many of the current superstars. He is out of the mare Lucky Lady and was purchased at the Magic Million Sales as a yearling. The funny story here is that when he was in the ring he was announced as a Colt, and the owner purchased him under that proviso. When he found out later that he had already been gelded, and that he was actually two stone lighter, contact was made to the Magic Millions who offered to take him back. The owner decided to stick with him and from there the name was born.
Twostone has had 4 career starts for two thirds, and is now starting to get towards the distance he has been looking for. With races like the Derby and the Cup, you have to decide months before if you think you might have a runner, often before your horse has even won a race. If you don’t enter then you are not eligible later on and have missed your opportunity.
As you can imagine, the Derby or the Cup is a long way from winning the 1800m Maiden at the Gold Coast. However like many things in life, if your not in it, you can’t win it, and if he doesn’t make it this time, there is always next year.
